Website Strohm und Söhne e.V.
Tasks:
- Integrate sensors, actuators and safety-relevant subsystems into the complete vehicle architecture
- Work with CAN interfaces, DBC-based communication and hardware-software integration
- Support integration of steering, braking, EBS logic and diagnostic interfaces
- Connect individual subsystems into a stable and testable overall system
- Analyze interface errors and integration failures systematically
- Support validation on the vehicle and on the test bench
- Contribute to safety-oriented implementation and reproducible testing workflows
- Document interfaces, signal definitions and integration results
Profile:
- Ongoing or completed studies in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Technical Computer Science or a related field
- Interest in vehicle systems, embedded communication and safety-related development
- Experience with CAN, hardware interfaces or embedded software is a plus
- Structured approach to debugging and system-level problem solving
- Basic programming knowledge in Python and/or C++ is helpful
- Motivation to work close to the real car and understand how all parts interact physically and digitally
What awaits you:
As a Systems Integration Engineer, you will work at the boundary between software, electronics and the vehicle itself. This role is essential because even strong individual subsystems are not enough if they do not interact reliably in the real system. Your job is to make these interfaces robust, understandable and competition-ready. That includes communication over CAN, diagnostics, safety checks, actuator integration and support during real-world testing.
You will gain practical experience in one of the most valuable engineering skill sets: making complex systems work together under pressure. The role combines debugging, architecture understanding, hardware awareness and disciplined documentation. You will be involved when issues appear on the car, when signals do not match expectations or when a theoretically working subsystem fails under real conditions. That makes this position ideal for students who enjoy troubleshooting, system thinking and engineering accountability. Your work will directly improve reliability, traceability and safety across the entire autonomous vehicle platform.
Time expenditure: At least 10 hours per Week
